Teacher Education Program

Inception and Accreditation

North Greenville University’s College of Education was originally established and approved in 1997 and has been offering exceptional educator preparation since.

North Greenville University College of Education is nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), by the South Carolina State Department of Education (SCDE), and by the Specialized Program Areas (SPAs) for each initial licensure program.

Purpose

The purpose of the Teacher Education Program at North Greenville University is to develop teacher candidates who possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that prepare them to be effective practitioners, caring leaders, and lifelong learners.

Vision of the COE

The College of Education at North Greenville University will be recognized as a place where teacher candidates, faculty, and staff are supported in developing and implementing current best practices in education and growing in their understanding of servant leadership and faith in a world that desperately needs Jesus.

Mission

Building on a heritage of teachers who modeled behaviors indicative of high expectations, the faculty in the College of Education continues to demonstrate to students the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that empower them to go forward with resolve and courage as teacher education graduates of a school “of high grade equal to any in the country” (Howard, 1967, p. 5).

In keeping with North Greenville University's purpose and mission, the College of Education aims to develop teachers with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to foster learning in all students. Our goal is to prepare teacher candidates to become valuable, contributing members of society by educating the whole person. This is achieved through a blend of academic discipline, a Christian lifestyle, and enriched cultural experiences. We strive to provide the best opportunities for spiritual growth, academic training, and Christian service.

Aim

The College of Education continues to meet the need for highly effective and highly qualified teachers, for public and private schools, throughout the state and the nation with our CAEP-accredited Teacher Education Program. Our collaborative partnerships (with various public schools in Greenville, Pickens, Anderson, and Spartanburg counties) strengthen the educational training and preparation for those aspiring to become early childhood, elementary, music, theatre, or secondary teachers (grades 9-12 Social Studies, English Language Arts or Mathematics or K-12 Physical Education). Parents and students can be assured that North Greenville University’s Teacher Education Program will provide a challenging, innovative, and inspiring means of training the mind, the spirit, and the attitude to be a successful teacher. We aim to prepare dedicated teachers who are effective practitioners, caring leaders, and lifelong learners. In addition to the extensive field-based teacher education experience, the College of Education program provides practical, hands-on opportunities for hopeful future teachers, including various opportunities for preservice teachers to interact with specialists in their fields. Local school systems continue to express their high regard for our students and have enabled us to open doors of opportunity to our students and graduates alike.
