MABS-5352 Healthcare Policy and Health Inequalities

This course will focus on the healthcare system in the US and how healthcare policies may impact patients and their families. These impacts may include but are not limited to patient costs, quality, and accessibility of health care services. Students will be introduced to the health care organization structure, healthcare delivery, billing and coding, and reimbursement. Topics for discussion will also include health care inequities, the patient-centered medical team, quality improvement, risk management, and disease prevention. Additionally, discussion about health disparities including social identity groups, visual, hearing, and language impaired, patients with religious barriers, and their effects on patients within the US healthcare system will occur.
