PHED-4310 Physical Education for Special Populations
An introduction to planning and delivery of effective physical education programs for diverse populations. Emphasis on understanding and identifying various conditions that may result in limited physical and/or mental abilities among special needs students, assessing student abilities and planning appropriate physical activity based on assessed needs and ability, methods for integrating special needs students into regular physical activities, and evaluating special needs student performance in physical education programs. Addition emphasis will be placed on development of student IEPs and the role of the physical educator in this process. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of field experience observing and assisting in physical education settings involving special needs students. Lab fee required.
