Sophomore Review
Along with the course requirements, successful completion of the BA Degree in Art includes passing the Sophomore Review. The Sophomore Review takes place after the student completes the following courses with a grade of C or better:
ARTS-1310 Drawing I
ARTS-1320 Drawing II
ARTS-1330 Design I
ARTS-1340 Design II
ARTS-2310 Art History I
ARTS-2320 Art History II
A review panel consisting of art faculty members will examine artwork produced during the student’s freshman and sophomore years and evaluate whether the student is ready to move on to the junior level. The portfolio must include all projects produced in Design I and II and all drawings produced in Drawing I and II. The portfolio may also contain any other works that the student has produced during their time at NGU.
The student's Sophomore Portfolio will be evaluated in the areas of Spatial Awareness, Compositional Skill, and Technical Skill.
After passing the Sophomore Review, the student will declare their area of emphasis from the following: Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture.
Senior Exhibition
During their last semester, Senior Art Students will enroll in ARTS-4190 Senior Seminar and ARTS-4370 Portfolio and Exhibition Procedures. Through these courses, they will create a body of artwork that is intended to be displayed at the end of the semester at the student's Senior Exhibition.
Prior to the student’s Senior Exhibition, a committee consisting of Art Faculty will review the work that is to be exhibited. There will be two instances where this occurs: firstly, during the Midterm Review, which will be scheduled near Midterm of the student's final semester, and then secondly, during the Senior Review, which will be scheduled sometime near the end of their final semester. The committee will decide whether the student will be able to pass and continue with their exhibition. If the student does not pass the review, they will not be allowed to fulfill the requirements for completing ARTS-4190 Senior Seminar and ARTS-4370 Portfolio and Exhibition Procedures and will need to retake these courses. (Both Seminar and Exhibition and Portfolio Procedures are only offered during the fall and spring semesters.)
Grade Point Requirements
In all ARTS courses, the student must obtain a C or better to receive credit in their degree requirements. The student also must have a final cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 in all of their courses.
