HIST-3373 United States and Latin American Relations

Cross-Listed as PLSC-3373 In this class, we will put US-Latin American relations in context by examining US perceptions of Latin America and Latin Americans. These perceptions have influenced various US policies including those regarding security during the Cold War, development assistance, and human rights. We will look at the impact of these policies in Latin America, as well as Latin American responses to US involvement. A look at contemporary US-Latin American concerns will include discussions on immigration, the drug trade, and democratization in Latin America. (Western, Non-Western)
