Early Commencement Policy
An undergraduate student may participate in spring commencement as an anticipated graduate with up to 6 hours remaining after the spring semester, provided that he/she is able to complete the remaining hours during the summer. Early commencement policy does not apply to fall commencement.
An undergraduate student who is enrolled in an online program, but not finished with the spring semester due to the separate academic calendar for NGU Online courses, may participate in spring commencement as an anticipated graduate with up to 6 hours remaining after the spring semester, provided that he/she is on track to pass all spring courses and is able to complete the remaining hours during the summer.
Anticipated graduates will not be eligible to receive Latin honors at spring commencement because all required coursework has not been completed; appropriate Latin honors will be indicated on the student’s diploma and transcript once it is awarded following the successful completion of all coursework.
Graduation Under a Particular Catalog
Graduate degree requirements are governed by the catalog in effect at the time of a student’s first enrollment in graduate courses (when the student establishes a transcript) or by any subsequent catalog, whichever the student chooses, within a period of five consecutive years. Degree requirements must be from one catalog. Unless the student formally requests to change catalogs, the catalog of record will be defined as the catalog in force when the student first enrolled in graduate course work. Requests to change catalogs should be made in writing and submitted to the Associate Provost for Graduate Studies. In all cases, all courses taken for credit toward the degree must have been completed within the stated time limit.
Undergraduate Students Taking Graduate Courses
Undergraduate students may enroll in graduate courses under the following conditions:
1. The student must obtain written approval from the Program Dean in the graduate area in which the work is offered.
2. The student must be of senior standing with only two or fewer semesters of undergraduate coursework remaining.
3. The student has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at NGU.
4. The graduate course does not create an overload.
5. Students are limited to 6 hours a semester (3/4 hours per 8-week sub-term) of graduate coursework.
6. The graduate coursework may not be covered by financial aid. The student should meet with financial aid to discuss how taking a graduate course may impact their aid and the cost to attend NGU.
7. Graduate courses may be used to meet an undergraduate degree requirement or a graduate degree requirement, but not both. In either instance, the student shall be governed by the current year catalog of record at the time of enrollment.
8. Taking graduate courses as an undergraduate does not guarantee future admittance in a graduate program.
This policy does not apply to students enrolled in specified combination degrees. See the catalog section for specific combination degrees.
