Overview
At North Greenville University (NGU), the Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology has a two-fold purpose: (1) To fully train and academically prepare the student for future work in secular as well as ministry-based professions. The curriculum will provide the student with traditional undergraduate courses in psychology including personality theory, abnormal, social, cognitive, learning, and biological psychology and will also introduce the student to a variety of subfields in the discipline such as clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, experimental psychology, and related fields like social work. Many careers in professional psychology require more than a bachelor’s degree. The successful NGU graduate in psychology will be well-equipped to pursue graduate studies to practice as a therapist, psychologist or work in a related field. (2) To offer an academically sound psychology degree in a distinctly Christian atmosphere. A psychology major with a Christian emphasis will provide a better foundation for helping others with complex personal issues. The NGU curriculum includes special courses such as Psychology and Christian Faith in which biblical as well as psychological insights are combined to better prepare the student to serve in the professional field of psychology. The Christian faculty members have extensive clinical experience in private practices as well as educational, research, and Christian ministry settings.

Mission Statement
The purpose of the Bachelor of Science degree in psychology is two-fold:
- to fully train and academically prepare the student for future work in secular as well as ministry-based professions, and
- to offer an academically sound psychology degree in a distinctively Christian atmosphere.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
SLO 1 Mastery of Knowledge in Psychology: Students will demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, historical trends and relevant ethical issues in psychology.
SLO 2 Career and post graduate planning: Students will demonstrate knowledge about possible careers in psychology and indicate their post graduate plans.
SLO 3 Integration of Faith and Learning: Students will articulate an informed position on the relations between Christianity and the discipline of psychology, including consideration of worldview, epistemic, and other key foundational issues.
SLO 4 Scientific Inquiry and Critical Thinking: Students will understand and apply basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation.
